Map description:Freak Out Hot Spots Map, ULTRAMEGARARE!!! 1966 Los Angeles 'Freak Out Productions' Broadsheet map of LA printed in red and black, with accompanying legend, written and designed by Frank Zappa. 'Freak' graphics in b/w to verso. 58.5x73.5cm. This is the rare, original issue of Frank Zappa's Freak Map, which locates and describes LA's freak subculture, as advertised on the sleeve of The Mothers' debut album ("FREAK-OUT HOT SPOTS! shows how to get to Cabters, Ben Frank's, Fred C. Dobbs, The Trip, The Whiskey A-Go-Go, The Brave New World, It's Boss, Bido Lito's, and many more interesting places. Also shows where the heat has been busting frequently, with tips on safety in police-terror situations"). Originally intended to accompany the record, it was obtainable by sending $1.00 to United Mutations, Frank's distribution company. A second version of the Freak Map appeared in Los Angeles Free Press #121 (Nov. 11, 1966), and a third, much smaller b/w edition, became available via head shops on Sunset Strip and other locations in Hollywood. A great example of Zappa's graphic design work. Water demage and folded as issued, but still in nice condition!!
